CREATION IS AN ADVENTURE -

Whether ghostwriting a nonfiction novel about the Ukraine-Russia conflict, learning to roller skate and dance on Chicago's South Side, or teaching cinematography in Qatar, I spent the past twenty years getting out of my comfort zone. I can't help but take up a challenge.

More recently, I’ve taken up challenges like writing The Exchange, a Netflix hit series in the Middle East, and Nine Innings to Love, a TikTok microdrama for the Chicago Cubs.

I never knew if these opportunities would work out, but by making my mouth say 'Yes' even when my anxiety said 'No', I learned to leap into the unknown with equal measures of humility and aplomb.

We don't travel, explore, invent, and create to stay the same. We do it because we dream of going further. That’s why I don't like hanging out in the status quo or making things I’ve seen before.

My work is a love letter to my younger self. I write the stories and teach the classes that I wish I had growing up. My films and curriculum are a love letter to anyone who's been excluded, distorted, or trivialized, because I also want to write the stories and lead the classrooms they wish they'd had growing up.

This has led me to work with high-profile organizations and clients such as Netflix, Kartemquin Films, Image Nation, the BBC, and Northwestern University in Qatar.

In addition, documentaries that I’ve produced have been nominated for Emmys and premiered on national television and at Opening Night at Sundance.

In other words, I know a good story when I see one, and I know how to draw a crowd.
